Formula Student

Formula Student is an international competition run by the Institute of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE). It challenges groups of students from around 70 Universities all over the world to design, analyse, build, develop and race a small high performance racing car.

The competition not only involves entering the car into a series of events designed to test the car over a wide range of racing situations, it also requires students to produce a sound commercial analysis of the car including manufacturing reports and full costing and sales presentations. In completing the competition, students learn the skills that employers want through actual experience.

In 2003 and 2004, the Brookes team was the best UK Formula Student Team. In 2005, the Brookes team came first out of all British teams in the US Formula SAE competition, and 13th out of the 140 world teams, setting a world record in the skid pan event.
