Industrial Placement
The Department has very strong links with many local and multi-national high-tech companies. Our laboratories provide regular consultancy, research and development support to some of these companies.
Our links with the industry and a placement scheme co-ordinated by our Industrial Placements Manager has greatly facilitated excellent sandwich placement opportunities for our students in a wide variety of companies such as BMW UK and Rolls Royce. An Institution of Mechanical Engineers accreditation visit panel has described our industrial placement scheme as a model of good practice.
The work carried out by students is varied, interesting and challenging. Student work has included aspects such as re-design and development of components, component tracing, process improvement, systems condition monitoring, planning, production, quality control, etc.
Why not consider taking on an industrial placement student for one year (40 working weeks minimum) from the School of Technology's undergraduate degree courses at Oxford Brookes University?
The benefits to the industrial partner include:
- An enthusiastic, young engineer available for work without incurring recruitment costs and at a moderate salary level (£13,000pa to £15,000pa) depending on location and circumstances.
- Training, developing and getting to know an individual who is likely to be interested in longer term employment after graduation.
- An opportunity of getting further work done by the student in his/her final year project once back at Oxford Brookes University.
- The student is fully supported by the University whilst on placement. (Full technical support for the student is provided by a relevant university academic during the placement period).
The experience of the industrial placement scheme is very positive for both student and industry. If you would like to discuss the scheme further or have any questions, we will be pleased to send one of our staff to your company to talk to you.
